Okay, bit of an overreaction coming up:

My school had the balls to put on a production of Les Miserables this year. To say the least, I was almost expecting to be disappointed. I just didn't really think that a high school could pull off as definitive of a musical as Les Miz.

But I was severely, severely mistaken.

All I can say is that I'm breathless. This is the one time in my high school career that I can say I'm proud to be a student at East. This will sound haughty and pretentious, but the vocal talent at my school is just superior. RJ, the senior who played Jean Valjean, was utterly flawless. The audience (or at least I) was in tears.

There were a couple moments where it was pretty obvious that this was a high school production. But all in all, the good points majorly outweighed the bad points and I am more than satisfied with what I've just seen.

I cannot wait to see it again. I'm almost afraid, because I want to keep my first impression of the show. I want to remember it always as amazing. And I'm afraid that seeing it a second time will flaw my memory of the show. But I also just WANT TO SEE IT AGAIN AHHH. No I don't have Tourettes.

I also am really excited to congratulate all the cast members I know on a job very well done. I was really suprised by some of the talent in our school that I never knew about.

Forgive me if I sound way too spirited, but this is (and will continue to be) a highlight of my years at East. This was like one moment where I did not resent a single thing about my school. And the fact that a high school would even think about taking on something like Les Miz, is impressive in itself. Imagine my surprise when I was completely blown away.

Granted, I am not judging this on a Broadway level. In terms of the average high school spring musical, though? Please, please, if you live in the South Jersey area, come see Cherry Hill High School East's version of Les Miz. You will not be disappointed.
